With the summer circuits nearing a close, DePaul Head Coach Chris Holtmann and his staff got the ball rolling on their ‘25 Class landing two guys that made some noise at NY2LA and U18 FIBA AmeriCup, respectively.
First to commit today, was 2025 6’6” combo guard Kruz McClure, who will be playing his senior season in Milwaukee at DME: St. John’s Northwestern. Touted by Dan Gibbs (@Gibbs_Dan_) on X (Twitter) as “…one of the fastest rising 2025 guards in the nation,” Kruz McClure also held offers from Clemson, Xavier, and Cincinnati. Holtmann offered McClure after watching him play with his MR22 Elite squad on the Adidas Grassroots circuit.
Kruz, describes his game as, “(A) Two way all-around player. I can score at all three levels, and I’m a good defender.” Kruz can create space for himself to score and can use his length to finish at strong at the rim. McClure averaged 15pts/4rebs/3assts on the Adidas circuit, shooting 41% from behind the arch. In Ohio Highschool ball for Westerville, Kruz averaged 23.9pts/4.4rebs/3assts as a junior and was First Team All State and a Finalist for Ohio Mr. Basketball. Kruz is on the verge of being in the top 150 according to On3.com.
The second commit that Holtmann and staff secured within an hour of the first, was 2025 7’1” big man Isaiah Medina, from Gibbs High School in St Petersburg, FL, by way of Puerto Rico. Currently listed as the number 74 overall player in 2025 according to On3.com, Medina just finished his visit to Chicago over this past weekend. Isaiah held offers from SLU, USF, West Virginia, and Xavier amongst others. Holtmann offered Medina while watching him in the Puma Pro 16/NXT circuit this summer.
According to Jamie Shaw (@JamieShaw5 on X), “He showed some timing on defense, he showed some offensive chops, and he battled on the boards.” Medina has been described as having “impressive mobility and coordination for a 7 footer, and good hands.”
Medina also played over the summer representing Puerto Rico in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup Games where he averaged 6.2pts/5.3rebs per game.
The addition of both of these players lays some nice groundwork by the staff for the 2025 roster, especially with big men being hard to come by in the portal. Additionally, there will be more work to do given that there will be two additional scholarships added to basketball based off a recent NCAA ruling that increased Basketball Scholarships from 13 to 15.
Below is the up to date scholarship tracker with the two new additions:
